PARADISE CORNER

PARADISE AIR held a public event at Matsudo Civic Theater, using spaces beyond the theater itself, including the first-floor entrance and the second-floor lobby.

Framed as a “Paradise Corner” appearing in the city, the event introduced the daily activities and creative works emerging from PARADISE AIR, while exploring alternative ways of engaging with the civic theater outside its conventional role as a performance venue.

During the event, Li Wen-Hao (Taiwan), who was in residence at PARADISE AIR, researched songs that local Matsudo residents had once cherished. In the first-floor entrance, he shared warm Taiwanese tea with visitors while listening to their memories and the titles of those songs.

In the theater lobby, works by artists who have previously stayed at PARADISE AIR were exhibited. These pieces were created in response to the artists’ experiences in Japan and Matsudo, offering a rare opportunity to view past works from the PARADISE AIR residency program. Artist and coordinator Ayaka Ura also hosted an open ZINE-making session, inviting anyone to reflect on the year’s workshops and consider future possibilities.

Inside the theater, a lecture by the volunteer group Matsudo Shidankai, which compiles and shares the history of Matsudo, was also held. The day connected local history with present-day practices, creating a space to reflect on the future.
