On October 16, 2025, artist Jessie McNeil conducted an interview with Miho Inatsugu, a member of the performance collective Ima Theater and a mother of a young child, in a café in Tokyo.
Through a series of questions, the conversation explored motherhood, artistic practice, and how becoming a mother has transformed Inatsugi’s approach to her work compared to earlier stages of her career.
During the interview, Inatsugi spoke about how experiences of motherhood are reflected not only in her individual practice but also in the collective activities of Ima Theater. She described bringing her child to rehearsal and performance sites as a new kind of social project, rather than a personal constraint. Particularly striking was her reflection that art can function as a space where new possibilities are tested ahead of broader social change—allowing experiments that society itself has not yet fully embraced.
