Reappearing ― Listening to the shapes of water

Mitch Fournial focuses on listening to the landscape crossing. His visit to Japan was an opportunity to discover the close relationship that people have with water, particularly in public baths.

For him, it’s this special closeness to the sounds of flow that connects us to the regenerative power embodied by water. The shape of trickling sounds produces a kind of discreet inattention that allows us to renew our presence to the world.

To illustrate this idea, he set up a protocol to make disappear his entire water weight. Drop by drop, he criss-crossed the public baths, vanishing into the sound of the water flow. With the aim of perhaps one day reappearing as another symbiotic half-water, half-human entity that can regenerate itself.

Sound Perfomance

Tobias Rüetschi researches music technology, its accessibility and how musical practices used in Noise music can make us think about how we approach instruments and other gear and socially construct their aura.
For this event, Tobias will do a sound performance showcasing his DIY digital browser-based feedback instrument called „JUNK“ , which he started programming during the residency. He will combine the sounds coming from „JUNK“ with the sounds created live by playing with a No-Input Mixing Board, creating a noisy, ambient dialogue between digital and analogue feedback instruments.
