Shin Asato

Born in 1984 in Okinawa, Japan. Artist. Lives and works in Okinawa Prefecture and Chiba Prefecture. After graduating from the University of the Ryukyus (Department of Human Sciences), he went on to study at the Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts (Painting Major.) After finishing graduate school, he was a research student at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich from 2016 to 2017.

He is mainly interested in the “atmosphere” of nature such as light, water, and wind, and creates two-dimensional, mixed-media, and installation works based on his physical senses and spatial perception of the laws of nature and the environmental and cultural conditions surrounding people.

His solo exhibitions include shadows and colors (Die Färberei, Munich), and Footprints, (Hamahiga Island, Okinawa.) He has also participated in group exhibitions at the Ionion Center for the Arts and Culture (Greece), National Gallery of Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur), Galeri Soemardja (Bandung), and 98B COLLABoratory (Manila).
