Berlin-based graphic artist Yuka Masuko, in collaboration with PARADISE AIR, has created poster works for the participatory art project “Seishun Matsudo Line”, which are displayed on the temporary construction hoarding in front of Matsudo Station.

Drawing on impressions gathered during her residency, Masuko improvised images on a daily basis. Like decorating a purikura or sticker notebook from her school days, she scattered various motifs around the Edo River, a symbol of Matsudo, layering personal memories with the city’s landscape.

This work is based on “Blue Spring,” a Germany-originated, multi-format art project that begins with Japanese youth culture and expands into art books, exhibitions, and workshops. Through illustrations, handwritten poems in both Japanese and German, and interviews with 65 former club activity members, the project explores the passion, growth, and nostalgia of “youth” as embodied in Japanese junior high and high school extracurricular clubs, presenting these themes in a richly layered way.

The project also incorporates “memories of youth” collected through questionnaires from people living in Matsudo. The voices and stories gathered will serve as inspiration for future poster works to be created as part of the project.
