Pachi pachi: a guided tour of my mind｜Kiral

As part of the LONGSTAY Program 2024–25, two artists—Kiral (Belgium) and Wantanee Siripattananantakun (Thailand)—undertook a three-month residency.

Kiral’s research and artistic practice centered on the themes of pachinko machines, the future, and the cosmos.

PARADISE AIR, where the artist stayed, is located on the upper floors of the Hamatomo Building, which houses the Rakuen Matsudo pachinko parlor. For this exhibition, the stairwell connecting the pachinko hall and PARADISE AIR was used as the venue, presenting a work-in-progress of Khiral’s short film, The Age of _. Visitors were able to experience the artist’s creative process up close, witnessing the work in its evolving state.

Alongside the film, materials from the residency—such as sketches, research notes, and collages—were also presented. Traversing a wide range of motifs, from medieval cosmological diagrams to pachinko and love hotels, the work offers a symbolic reflection of the unique characteristics of PARADISE AIR as a site.

July 1: Meeting with an engineer to modify the pachinko machine
July 5: Interviews with Venus Shinko and Hanamaki Reshura (VTuber) at Art Stone Entertainment
July 8: Visit to the Mayor and Vice Mayor of Matsudo
July 9: Filming at a love hotel in Chiba Prefecture
July 16: Filming inside pachinko parlors (Rakuen Matsudo and Noa Mizonokuchi)
