Sound ride with wind flutes｜Siedl/Cao

In July 2025, artist duo Siedl/Cao participated in the SHORTSTAY Program with their family of three. They invited local university students to join a group ride titled 《Sound Ride》, where participants attached wind flutes to their helmets and cycled through the city.

This bicycle-based program was a first for PARADISE AIR. Research began with finding suitable bicycles and helmets for Sound Ride, as the artists didn’t bring their own. Despite searching local bike shops and rental services, we couldn’t find rentals for children’s weights, only adult-sized bikes.
(Ultimately, the choice came down to either transporting electric bikes with a child seat from Tokyo or hiring a babysitter. Given the intense July heat, the artists opted for the latter, and the child stayed at PARADISE AIR on the day. Playing and keeping an eye on the children from overseas artists felt like another project in itself.)

Simultaneously with the bike search, we began recruiting participants for the Sound Ride. We reached out to a local road bike shop that regularly hosts rides, contacted acquaintances who were in cycling clubs during university… When we approached a local university cycling club, some enthusiastic members agreed to participate.

Since they were familiar with cycling locally, we asked them to help plan a safe group ride route that would also feature a “headwind” where the wind flute would sound. They suggested the Edogawa riverbed as the ideal spot. Thanks to the kindness of a club member who couldn’t attend but offered to lend us bikes, we were able to borrow bicycles and helmets.
