For this edition of the LONGSTAY Program, we chose not to set a specific theme. Instead, we imagined the program itself as a ship—one where artists and the entire crew embark together to catch a glimpse of new horizons. With this idea in mind, we carefully reviewed all 729 applications, doing our best to explore the full range of possibilities each one offered.
After the first and second rounds of review, eight finalists were selected. They varied in background, age, nationality, and artistic direction, but shared one important thing in common: each artist saw this journey as something meaningful and personal.
During the final public screening held with the people of Matsudo, we watched each video presentation and had in-depth discussions about their proposed residency plans. The conversation went far beyond the scheduled time—because the more we talked, the more we wanted to support every one of them. It was a very difficult decision.
In the end, after exchanging thoughts with the audience and reflecting on the question, “Which plans could only be embraced by us, here in this city?” we selected the following two artists as the invited residents.
The ship now sets sail, with the two artists on board, heading toward a new horizon.
