PARADISE HOUR 2024 Spring

Open studio “PARADISE HOUR 2024 Spring” was held by artist Tale Berger Hølmebakk, who stayed in the SHORT STAY Program from February to March 2024, and interns Peiyi Lin, Leo, and cherry from Tainan University of Technology.

Inspired by casual DIY (citizen-made furniture and tools) found while walking around Matsudo City, Tale held a stool-making workshop in the lounge. Participants, ranging from children to adults, enjoyed the casual fun of furniture making. And also she exhibited a zine of photographs of unique wooden structures found in the city, and handmade stool works she made during her stay in Room 601.

Peiyi Lin gave us a lecture about body and sense in the lounge. Afterward, workshop participants were asked to form groups of two and share her ideas by moving their bodies and sharpening their senses, such as walking with their eyes closed and moving in accordance with their partner as if they were mirrors.
cherry and Leo each created two-dimensional works focusing on the representation of a character. cherry focused on Chibakun, the mascot character of Chiba Prefecture, and depicted her unique worldview as she appeared in the scenery she experienced during her residency. Leo used a pixelated touch to depict people he met in Matsudo as if they were characters from a video game, and exhibited them in the spacious room where he was staying.

During the Open Studio period, volunteer staff member Mihiro Kawaguchi set up a chai stand called “Tea Lady” at the exhibition site, where visitors could enjoy viewing the works in a relaxing atmosphere while sipping on chai.
