Ocean View | Abdel am Meer

Graphic designer Abdel am Meer, who is currently on the SHORTSTAY Program in Japan from Stuttgart, Germany, will present the results of his residency at PARADISE AIR.

Oceans are a theme he has been continuously exploring in his work. The ocean spreads around the earth, connecting sparkling beaches of tropical islands to dangerous water zones that refugees must cross, the hot climates to the cold, flowing from the Bay of Tokyo through Edo River to Matsudo. During his residency, am Meer has created an interactive installation showcasing his experiences and research of the ocean in Matsudo, and in Osezaki, Numazu City. In the night the ocean is mesmerizing. 4K beauty of glowing air bubbles rising to the top. In the night the ocean is heavy. A turtle lying on its back on the shore of Osezaki. In the night the ocean is daunting. Blinking lights of fishing boats, cruisers and rubber boats seeking refuge.
