《Unraveling Sounds of Matsudo》 is a sound installation by Kenta Tanaka who lived in Matsudo 25 years ago in his childhood, focusing on the theme of time flowing in Matsudo. Combining sounds of Matsudo about 25 years ago, voices of people talking about Matsudo in the past, and field recordings taken in various locations of Matsudo in the present, the sound space evokes individual memories of the city.
Through LONGSTAY Program 2020-21, Kenta has been conducting a residency to trace the past with the help of people connected to Matsudo, including collecting memories in workshops and receiving old home videotapes filmed in Matsudo.
During the exhibition, he also spoke to visitors to the venue, Cafe Wakamatsu, about their past relationship with Matsudo and their future life in Matsudo.
Live performances were also given by artists on both days.
In addition to the sounds of the sound installation, the artist’s own recorded birth voice and live music were added to this experimental work, which uses sound to unravel the time of Matsudo in the past, present and future, as well as the time of the artist himself, who was born and spent his childhood there.
