taka kono’s exhibition ‘noomoon’ comprises a number of works that investigate the states of being of bodies and space. alongside cryptic works, the artist has built a facility equipped with blank dresses, forensic chemicals prepared in a laboratory, and diluted solutions of animal blood from the slaughterhouse; where viewers are invited into the space to color empty garments.

notes from the artist:
someone i met in new york, who i greatly admire once told me an over-sentimental story about lovers who were geographically separated from one another and exchanged photos of the moon every night as their only means of communication. though later when he showed me a work of his where a video footage of a shore was duplicated, then overlapped unsynchronized, for a second i thought that maybe i had understood them. recently i have been uploading a short video of the moon every night, trying to create a video like that of one a child uploads for the very first time and forgets it exists until it is revisited some years later. during that time the image of the moon would sleep, and on rare occasions someone would stop by and realize the video and perhaps the moon. i say ‘perhaps’ because i
have noticed the moon has a tendency to withdraw. on most nights the city hides the moon, and on other nights the moon hides behind the clouds. eventually i end up filming the night sky hoping that my lens is at least facing some other distant moon. by the second week, i am convinced the moon does not care to be filmed, let alone be uploaded on the internet.
