YARITORI has been launched through a collaboration between PARADISE AIR and the Embassy of Portugal in Japan. This initiative is directed by artist Vasco Mourão, who previously spent three months in Matsudo in 2015 as part of the LONGSTAY Program. Created to support artists from Portugal, YARITORI welcomed its first resident, Olga Sanina, selected from 173 applicants. Olga is currently staying in Matsudo and conducting research and production for her project.
Rooted in the relationships cultivated over the past decade, this program brings a fresh opportunity for creative exchange in Matsudo.

During her stay, Olga Sanina has been researching trees that survived two of Tokyo’s major historical tragedies: the 1923 Great Kanto Earthquake and the bombings during World War II. Her project collects and engages with these living witnesses of history—trees that serve as “living heritage” of the city. Through her work, Olga explores time-transcending presence and memory.
